First Impression

When I first looked at this house my first impression upon entering the home was not great. The decor was so not my style and the lighting features were extremely dated. Hopefully we have improved the first impression the house gives off a great deal. It is definitely an improvement at least.

I would still like to restain the front door and the trio dish usually has candy in it, however, two sneaky boys already took care of that. I have reserves in the drawer for when company comes.

Work Weekend

Lots of help from my mom, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and my friend, Lori helped to make this weekend a very successful weekend.

Dining area...still needs new blinds, window treatments, table runner (tablecloth is for protection from my rowdy boys), chandelier (Dad is doing this today), a little wall decor, and slipcovers.

SNACK BAR The house had a very 1980s wet bar that we would never use so I turned it into a snack bar. Sam is trying it out. Still needs window treatments, light fixture, cute sign, a towel holder for cute towels.

Kitchen is the most complete room and I am so pleased. Still needs wall decor and rug.

The boys tried the bar out for breakfast and loved it.

BEADBOARD

The end is in sight. The beadboard, trim, and baseboards are all up and most are caulked. All they have left is to finish painting, finish the hardware, touch-up the cabinets, lay the remaining floors in the morning room, then clean-up and put everything back. That sounds like a lot when I type it but by Tuesday we should have the house back to ourselves and be able to put it all together. I am getting SO excited.
Happy Father's Day to my amazing dad, husband, father-in-law, and brother-in-law. My kids are so blessed to have you for an example of the type of men they need to be and I am lucky to have you at important times like when I move my family to a fixer-upper. :) Love you all!

GETTING CLOSER

After a pretty big mix-up we were able to get the floors started. We went a little lighter on the floors than I originally thought and am so happy we did.

Love the variation in color.

The cabinets are finished except for touch-up and hardware.
Love how clean it looks with the stainless appliances and pale blue walls.
Waiting on beadboard.
Those tray ceiling lights need to go.

Morning room looks so fresh and clean...fan needs to go as well.

Black Out

The cabinets got their first few coats of black paint today. I really like how they look and the finish is what I wanted. We are getting so much closer...hopefully just a few more days.

It's coming along...

Today they got quite a lot done.
All the paint in the family room...that light fixture will be gone soon.
Like the way the doors pop.Wet bar area
Cabinets primed and ready to go.

Did I mention we have a lot of drawers? There were more in the morning room. My sweet Mom got us all the hardware for the cabinets. We got a great deal on eBay.

It is hard to see but this is the icy blue for the kitchen above the beadboard. Love it.

The cabinets get painted tomorrow and hopefully the beadboard will go up.

Still waiting on the floors to come in. Hoping for tomorrow.

DEMO - Day 2

Does anyone know if the hazy cloud of dust throughout my house harmful to young children? Just wondering. I spent the first two hours of my morning removing all the contents of my kitchen onto the bed which I was wishing I was still in. The crew showed up on time and got right to work while the boys and I ran a few errands. By the time we got home they had already pulled up all of the carpet in the family room and were ready to get to work on the tile in the entry. Which meant that I had to remove all of my crystal and china from my server. Half the battle was finding a place to put it all since most rooms of the house are part of the reno process or are already filled to the brim. The boys and I ate lunch on the train table while they got to work on the tile. It proved quite difficult to get up and was very loud. Both boys though were able to get good long naps in while they worked. Who says nap time has to be quiet? They finished around 2:30 and will be back up to finish their prep work tomorrow and hope to install on Monday. They are hoping the cabinets and walls will be finished up by then.
Toby snuck away to Home Depot while he was still home and came home with a merchandise slip for a GE stainless steel refrigerator....the biggest one Home Depot sells. He said it was a belated 30th birthday present. I said he was an amazing husband. It was installed today and fills the space so well. It also looks great with all of the other stainless appliances. I am starting on a few smaller (much smaller) renovation projects myself and hopefully will have some pics to post soon.
